Abstract
The purpose of this study was to validate the Korean version of the pet bereavement questionnaire scores. We conducted a factor analysis using data from 362 adults who had experience losing pets. Our exploratory factor analysis resulted in 12 items within three factors: grief, anger, and trauma. Evidence of construct validity on each item and reliability for the K-PBQ total score were supported by confirmatory factor analysis and internal reliability value. Criterion validity was supported by positive correlations of the K-PBQ with BDI, State Anger, and Guilt scales scores. Evidence of discriminant validity was also supported by a non-significant correlation between the K-PBQ and Multidimensional Perceived Social Support. In addition, there was no significant difference in levels of bereavement, anger, and trauma between two gender groups, whereases women reported higher levels of grief than their men counterpart. Lastly, participants in our study reported a similar level of psychological pain within five years of losing their pets.
